Guided Instructional Tours

TOURS ARE CURRENTLY SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS
We look forward to resuming tours and school group visits as soon as possible!

The Travel Town Museum Foundation offers guided instructional tours by appointment to groups of 10 or more – school groups, clubs, family gatherings, children and adults alike are all welcome!  Our tours are led by a knowledgeable Volunteer Docent or Foundation Staff Member.  Sessions last between 30-45 minutes, depending on the ages of visitors in the tour group.  We ask for a donation of $5 per person for the tour, which includes a ticket to ride on the miniature train that encircles the museum grounds.

Reservations are required for all group tours. Please see information below.

School Visits

For children younger than 3rd grade, our tours include a train story time in our Holden’s Corner Learning Area. Tours with children who are in the 3rd grade and above will include a lesson about how a steam locomotive works, educate them about railroad safety, and teach the children how to identify different types of railroad cars. Please let the volunteer manager if there any specific areas you would like touched upon during the tour.

You must reserve your tour at least two weeks prior to your desired date.

Call our volunteer manager directly at
(323) 668-0104 ext. 12 or email at visit.tours@traveltown.org

Our museum admission is always free but for docent led tours we ask for a $5.00 donation per person attending.  This includes a ride on the Griffith Park Travel Town Railroad that runs along the perimeter of our grounds.

Your donation will allow us to further develop our educational outreach programs and continue our docent programs in the future.

Credit cards are accepted over the phone at the reservation number 323-668-0104, extension 12.

We offer picnic areas with tables for your group to enjoy a snack or lunch during your visit.

Parking is always free.

Group Tours

Adult groups, college classes, and tourist groups are welcome at the Museum with specialized tours that can be catered to your group’s interests. Social, economic, and mechanical advances made that involve the railroads and their development can be discussed and explored.  Please discuss your groups’ interests with our volunteer manager to learn more about what we can offer.
